Driving innovation across the group

The energy transition requires continuous innovation across technologies, infrastructure and business models. The Encevo Group promotes innovation as a core capability to strengthen system resilience, accelerate decarbonisation and enhance customer solutions in the Greater Region.

Innovation at Encevo is rooted in our operational reality. We develop and deploy new solutions by combining the expertise of our internal teams across generation, grids, supply and technical services. Close collaboration between business units enables us to test ideas rapidly and translate them into practical, system-relevant applications.

At the same time, we actively collaborate with leading research institutions and selected innovative start-ups. This dual approach, combining applied research with entrepreneurial agility, strengthens our ability to anticipate technological and regulatory developments and to integrate them into the energy system.

Collaboration with universities and research institutions

Partnerships with the University of Luxembourg, Luxembourg-based research institutions like the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), as well as innovation-related institutions like Luxinnovation and the Luxembourg National Data Service (LNDS) play a central role in our innovation ecosystem.

These partnerships focus on applied research and knowledge exchange in areas such as renewable energy integration, grid flexibility, energy efficiency, digitalisation and the development of future energy infrastructures.

Collaboration takes place through joint research projects, pilot initiatives and participation in national and European research programmes. This approach allows scientific expertise to be tested under operational conditions and ensures that research outcomes address real system challenges.

Corporate Venture Capital

Corporate venture capital activities complement our research partnerships and internal innovation efforts.

Through targeted investments in early-stage European companies, typically at Series A level, we gain access to emerging technologies and business models relevant to the energy transition. Investments are selected based on strategic fit, long-term value creation and their relevance to our operational activities.

Beyond financial participation, the Corporate Venture Capital team acts as a gateway for start-ups seeking to collaborate on concrete projects and solutions. This open innovation approach enables knowledge exchange, experimentation and the transfer of innovation into operational practice.

Our areas of interest span the full energy value chain, including smart grids, demand-side management, energy efficiency, battery storage, hydrogen and Power-to-X technologies.

Within our portfolio, we encourage cooperation between portfolio companies and relevant group entities, as well as selective collaboration across the portfolio where it creates additional value.

The Encevo start-up portfolio includes:

  • Ampacimon
  • Amperecloud
  • DataThings
  • Ewattch
  • Ezzing Solar
  • Gridio
